Hello Tea Friends!
Day 8 is here and it’s a Saturday (does a dance).
Let’s open window 8.
Yerba Mate Matcha powder, ground to Japanese Matcha specifications, with an energy boost equal to caffeine but without the crash later on!
Ingredients: Yerba Mate Matcha powder, ground to Japanese Matcha specifications.
So again it’s a Matcha that’s not technically a Matcha. I must also admit Yerba Mate isn’t my usual cup of tea. It looks interesting non the less.
In raw form it’s green with a brown tint and bares a dry, wooden, herbal scent. Very Yerba Mate for those familiar with it.
Steeping Parameters: Whisk two scoops with 100ml of 80C water. Top with hot water.
I will be using the mini Matcha whisk that came with the kit.
Bubbles formed and then immediately dissipated into nothing.
Once Steeped the resulting liquid is golden brown and bares a very dry and herbal scent. Reminds me of dirty paint water.
Flavour wise it’s dry and wooden with a herbal and sour after taste that lingers with some astringency. It also has a refreshing quality similar to liquorice.
I took a large gulp and shuddered in disgust, that’s how much I dislike Mate. But that’s a personal thing. Besides, I doubt people drink it for the flavour.
It was interesting and perhaps better than your average Mate, but it’s still not for me. Perhaps it would be better mixed with other things, like as part of a smoothie where I’m covering the taste.
Join me tomorrow for another review.
