Hello Tea Friends! Thank you for joining me.
The weather is finally turning in the UK and we actually had some sun. Granted it didn’t last long and it’s still freezing I’m just thankful for something other than snow. You know the videos you see of penguins falling over comically on the ice? Yeah that’s me as soon as it becomes cold enough. That’s why as soon as the frost begins I retreat into my house and don’t come out until it’s gone. But that’s fine, I have enough tea to get me through several winters!
So what does day 13 bring me? …
Day 13 – Ultimate Chocolate
Ingredients: Black Tea, Cocoa Husks, Cocoa Beans, Calendula Petals, Natural Flavours
In appearance the dark black leaves are softly curled with some sticks/stems present and they contrast against the yellow calendula petals.
In scent this is rather chocolatey and sweet. Reminds me of cooking chocolate. Rather cocoa like but not thick enough to be mistaken for hot chocolate. Plus the sweetness is more full on.
Steeping Parameters: Boiling water for 3-4 minutes. No sweetener or milk.
Once steeped the liquor is red/brown in colour and bares the same sweet, chocolatey cocoa scent as it’s raw form.
The first few sips reveal a rich, wooden base with a hint of smoke and a sweet but dry chocolate after taste. Some sourness but not much considering this is without milk.
The chocolate flavour is velvety, it lingers in the mouth and it’s so very smooth. The sweetness is nice too, any sweetener would have been too much for me.
I liken this to the Canton Tea Co chocolate blend which I was also a fan of. This blend was actually better than I expected. I’ve tried many chocolate teas but this is in the top few, the balance was delightful and even though it was dry the flavour made up for that. A great alternative to a hot chocolate.
A wonderful treat to start my evening with. My husband is at his Christmas work party tonight which leaves me home alone and I intend to make the most of it. Me + Night Alone = Tea + Horror Films.
Join me tomorrow for day 14 😀
Until next time, Happy Steeping.
