Welcome to day six on the calendar. Today is slightly different in terms of review and here is why:
Day 6 – A vegan caramel chocolate
Since this tea calendar produced something non tea related I have decided to take it as a free day. So as it’s my choice I will pair this chocolate with a tea from somewhere else but remains Christmas themed. So to pair with this vegan caramel chocolate I will be drinking Mulled Wine Infusion Tea by Specially Selected range for Aldi.
I picked this up yesterday in store for the price of £1.89 for a pack of 15 pyramid bags. For those unsure Aldi is a large chain store in the UK. Also a side note, the pyramid bags are biodegradable.
Ingredients: Hibiscus, apple, cinnamon, anise, orange peel, clove and natural flavourings.
Opening the packet I got a whiff of spicy orange, strong and very festive. The mix in the bags look clean and with little to no dust or crumbs.
The back of the packaging states one teabag is to be steeped in boiling water for 3-4 minutes.
Once steeped the liquid is red and bares the same spicy orange scent. In flavour this is very pleasing. The first sips reveal an orange and cinnamon burst that softens into an apple and clove aftertaste. It’s not very sweet nor very tart considering it has hibiscus in.
The blend as a whole does remind me of mulled wine, though perhaps not as strong tasting. And paired with the chocolate it became very decadent and even more festive. I remember having a glass of mulled wine and a few pieces of chocolate when I was younger, right beside the fire place. It’s memories like those that I cling to. Plus if I’m not feeling festive enough I’m also wearing some Christmas socks.
So it’s been a calendar day with a difference but I count it as a nice surprise. Anything vegan and chocolate related has to be good!
