It’s finally here…Spring! Warm weather, bright days, freshly sprouting herbs and flowers the whole Spring she bang. After browsing my blogs after a few busy days of work I saw that Butiki Teas are hosting a competition. http://www.butikiteas.com/Contest.html
They are looking for pictures of their teas and I remembered I have their Sencha Superior to review so I may as well add my pictures to the contest and do a review (I dislike the saying ‘to kill two birds with one stone’ but cannot think of anything as fitting for this situation).
Here is what Butiki says about their Sencha –
This superior sencha originates from Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan and is a light-steamed sencha that has a savory flavor and semi-brisk finish that’s almost sweet. – Taken from Butiki website
Sencha is very Spring like for me with it’s sweet and grassy tones so this will be my first teapot to commemorate the start to a wonderful Spring time.
This Sencha is a wonderful dark green colour and forms very crisp and dry leaves that are thin and long and oh so fresh. They have a vegetal and floral scent in it’s raw form.
I’m brewing this in my diffuser teapot which is light green in colour and fits in with my Spring theme at around 80°C for three minutes.
Once steeped the tea forms a yellow coloured liquid that has a sweet grassy aroma that reminds me of fresh cut grass. Ahhh 🙂 Lovely.
In short and simple terms this tea is: grassy, sweet, floral, fresh, light and smooth.
In longer terms the first sips have a little sweetness that has floral undertones before a thick grassy mist appears and very quickly mellows itself to create a light and refreshing finish. There is a little dryness in the after taste that leaves a somewhat perfumey taste amongst the grassy remains on the tongue. The more I drink the sweeter it becomes and also with a little more dryness.
It has beautiful body and form which proves it’s quality (when they say superior they mean it). Two cups in and it’s still keeping the same light and fresh qualities that really make this tea wonderful. Plus I have a slight green tea boost from it’s caffeine which always happens when I have a nice pot of green tea.
I have rated this as 8/10.
This was another tea that caught the interest of both my boys 🙂 Great minds think alike.
